Solar Panels Going Up Near City Facilities
Taft, Calif. — Dec 8, 2011 – There are several big construction projects going on at city facilities.
You’ve probably seen the big steel beams going up behind city hall. They’re not part of a big elaborate parking shade for employees, as some have thought. Instead, they are going to hold solar panels that will generate electricity for city facilities and cut back on energy costs for the city. The city has entered into an agreement with the energy firm Enfinity for the installation of the solar panels.
The city, which is already participating in PG&E ClimateSmart program, is expected to see a substantial savings in energy costs over the 20-year life of the agreement. Enfinity is installing the panels at no cost to the city and its investors will benefit from tax incentives. An added bonus is that the solar panels will indeed provide shade in the Civic Center parking lot.
